Myrtle Beach Things to do

With all the popular attractions around Myrtle Beach, there are some amazing places that even locals may not know about. Our real estate agents share the best hidden gems and secret spots in Myrtle Beach, as long as you promise not to tell.

  • Waccamaw River Tours - 8496 Enterprise Rd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29588
Explore Myrtle Beach like the earliest visitors to the area on the Waccamaw River Tours. Leave civilization behind as you travel along the Waccamaw River and the Intracoastal Waterway, passing through the breathtaking National Wildlife Refuge. Alligators, herons, ducks, and turtles are just some of the birds and wildlife you may spot during the 90-minute tour. Visit the website for the full schedule. Tickets for the Nature and Wildlife Tour are $36.95 for adults and $20.95 for ages 12 and under.

  • Pawleys Island
A mere 30-minute drive transports you back hundreds of years in local history during a visit to Pawleys Island. In the early 18th century, nearby rice planters moved their families to the island from May until November for better health, making Pawleys Island one of the first "summer getaways". A dozen homes from that period remain in the historic district. Another link to the past is the Gray Man, said to be the ghost of a young man who perished in a tragic accident on the way to visit his fiancée. In addition to fishing, crabbing, biking, beachcombing, and paddling, Pawleys Island is known for its excellent surfing.

  • Cherry Grove Point
Look up the term "hidden gem" in a reference book, and you're likely to find a picture of Cherry Grove Point. This idyllic spot is nestled on the northern tip of Cherry Grove Beach, a delightful neighborhood with charms of its own. Featuring spectacular views of Hog Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean wrapping around all three sides, Cherry Grove Point is a perfect place for a romantic evening watching the sunset or a solitary walk to contemplate the mysteries of life. One of the reasons the point is so secluded is that no roads lead all the way in, so find a parking space and walk out to the beach.

  • Tours de Sandy Island - 2398 Sandy Island Rd., Pawleys Island, SC 29585
Even promotional materials for Sandy Island proclaim it to be a "hidden jewel" that's "virtually unknown" to Myrtle Beach visitors. The island is accessible only by boat, so the best way to experience the trip is through Tours de Sandy Island. Much of the undeveloped island is owned by the Nature Conservancy. Points of interest in the villages include Mt. Rena Cemetery, the Sandy Island schoolhouse, and Pyeatt General Store. Visit the website for the current schedule. Tickets for the 2.5-hour tour are $30-$50.

  • Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum - 3100 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
With all the natural beauty surrounding Myrtle Beach, it's easy to overlook cultural attractions such as the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum. Exhibitions in the museum's 11 galleries change throughout the year, offering something new to see with each visit. The museum also holds four permanent collections, including the Waccamaw Arts + Crafts Guild Collection. Hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5-$8 and free for ages 18 and under.

It's no secret that Myrtle Beach has incredible homes to suit any lifestyle. Contact us to learn more.
